How to read sheet music – Basic 1

I just started the course and was surprised to be dropped into sheet-looking music (screenshots attached)…how am I supposed to read this? Is there an explanation that I missed? The first one I more or less understand (hit the high hat, then the bass drum, then the snare) but what does the second one mean?

R stands for right hand, L for left hand, and the note symbols and placements on (or between) the lines represent the different kit piece (HH, BD, SD, etc.). There 8 symbols that you need to learn and which will be used for all of the Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced section of the eCourse. Drum notation is luckily the easiest of all notation systems, so I'm sure you'll quickly get used to them.
