Using ezDrummer 2 with 2 AKAI MPD218 pad controllers

For what you’re offering, it is a small price to pay for what I can see will greatly expand my creativity.

Just purchased 2 mpd218s, and your course. The intent- to use with the Easydrummer2 “modern” kit. (and I wish to play it right from the start with the dual 218s.

I downloaded your links for 2 pad banks (left hand, right hand)…..but now…I have absolutely NO idea where to go from here. All I can tell you is that both pads set on “A” group have the base drum on the lower left pad…WOO HOO!!…but uh…I understand that the right hand should be a mirror image.

In your offerings, I see no path to learn how to get things straight.

Like I said. Th $69 for your software is painless…but trying to understand even where to start with what I have is…..painful.

I would be happy and eager to “pay” for some help with this setup so I can get right to it. Is there something we can work out? I do A LOT of international business by Gotomeeting using screen shares, etc.

Really looking forward to your system,

Hi [name removed],

Thanks for getting in touch and thanks for your interest in learning finger drumming with the XpressPads technique.

I’m happy to help you getting set-up.

It seems like you’ve already downloaded the MPD218 editor and the XpressPads standard finger drumming preset.

What you actually need to do when you want to start with the Xtreme Layout right away is downloading the two “Xtreme” layouts, which you also find on the presets & layouts page:

http://www.xpresspads.com/finger-drumming-presets-and-layouts/hardware-presets/hardware-presets-for-akai-mpd218/

Download both presets (LH and RH):

AKAI MPD218 Xtreme HH exchanged for RD Finger Drumming Layout (LH)
http://www.xpresspads.com/wp-content/uploads/AKAI-MPD218-Xtreme-HH-exchanged-for-RD-Finger-Drumming-Layout-LH.mpd218

AKAI MPD218 Xtreme HH exchanged for RD Finger Drumming Layout (RH)
http://www.xpresspads.com/wp-content/uploads/AKAI-MPD218-Xtreme-HH-exchanged-for-RD-Finger-Drumming-Layout-RH.mpd218

Load these (one after the other) onto your MPD218 (LH for your left MPD / RH for your right MPD).

That should be it… under normal circumstances. As you say that you intend to use ezDrummer 2 (good choice!) for finger drumming, you need to know that its midi note mapping is hard-wired and cannot be changed within the software. No problem when you play Kick, Snare, Hihat, Ride, and a few other sounds, but some of the drum sound mappings differ a bit from the “General Midi” drum sound standard, which the XpressPads technique is based on. Therefore, a few minor tweaks are required in the MPD218 preset itself to exactly reflect the Xtreme XpressPads layout. Once done, you should save your amended layouts.

However, let’s try to get your setup right up to the point that you have the two presets loaded on your two MPDs and once done I can help you make the minor changes afterwards. It’s just a few more clicks then.

Best regards,

Andreas

Thank you so much for responding!

One thing you said did not take place. NOWHERE when the 218s were purchased (nor on their site) is there ANY prompting of “MPD218 Editor”…..nowhere. If that is also something that is required for this to work, I would appreciate it if you could provide a link to it for me.

Then, I’ll follow your steps. (though, yes, I already downloaded “both” the extreme right and left hand links.

REALLY appreciating your help with this and the VERY fast response you gave.

With much gratitude,
