Excel Spreadsheet data availability for Magic Tone Network

Hi.

I want to create a Bomes midi map of the magic tone network so that those of us not using Ableton Live can also use it on a Launchpad Pro. Not sure if Bomes mapper will handle it, but I think it will, and I’m willing to have a go at creating the script. But, I don’t have time to do all the keying. I’m a programmer, and will use that talent to find a way to import the excel script into Bomes files to complete the task.

Thanks.
Gary

Hi Gary,

That’s fantastic! Thanks for putting time into making this possible. Attached to this message please find the Excel file of the Magic Tone Network. Could you please keep me posted on how you get along with the scripting? And also, knowing where you’d publish it on the web would be good to know.

Furthermore, have you checked this recently published MIDI translator script for Max for Live which was written by Andreas Müller? Maybe it suits your needs already?

Best regards,

Hi. Just wanted to keep you up to date. Before I received your reply, I overzealously completed a bomes translation table based on the information in one of your MTN videos. The pads are set up according to the formula, 5,7,5,7 and 4,4,4 up. I’ll send you an excel table that I created to make sure it’s cool. But, it sounds nice.

I’m in the process of creating a video taking users through the process of obtaining and installing the bomes software, and then how to use the table that I created, in DAW environments.

I also created a BFD3 preset and key map that uses the entire novation grid for a six tom, many cymbal configuration, that even includes rim shots on some of the toms, and cymbal choking for two of the crashes. It employs the snares and basses on both the bottom rows and the top rows, and places the toms and cymbals in the center (we are talking top to bottom here), so that there is easy and agile access to the whole kit at all times. It actually turned out quite nice. But, I do need to practice a little to get used to the bass and snares at the top. I already got used to playing them at the bottom. I can tell already that it will allow very proficient playing on a kit that allows all the realism of the rims, side sticks, and chokes.

I will do a little video on that, too, explaining how to load the preset and use the keymap.

For both projects, I’ll be youtubing them and providing links to the bome translator file, and the key map and preset for BFD.
