Hi Andreas,

Just gone through some of the chapters of xpresspads and really like it. How do you play snare rim on this layout?

Regards,

The rim shot can be played either using the Xtreme layout or if you create a custom layout.

Do you intend to play finger drumming with two pad controllers?

Many thanks btw for your positive feedback regarding the course itself!

Thanks for your quick response. I don’t plan to use finger drumming with 2 pads. I plan to play a song where the A part will be the rim shot and the B part will be a snare. Is there any setup that we can do on 1 pad (without changing to different pad?) I’m thinking of playing in 2 preset, preset 1 will be the rimshot, preset 2 will be the standard layout. But I don’t know if we can change the preset on the fly. I’m playing iRig Pads by the way.

It’s exactly as you suggest. You’d need to use a second preset on which you exchange the regular snare drum by a rim shot sound. On the iRig Pads you can do the preset switching relatively quickly via the scene button and hitting a preset slot pad.

Thanks very much for your support Andreas. However there’s a bit of time required for changing the preset. Do you think we can setup the foot switch to change preset? I don’t know if iRig Pads can do it or not. If not then do you know any other pads controller has this capability?

I’d like to bring the pads out camping but I don’t like bringing laptop. Do you know any iphone/ipad drum app that sounds good? Is there any pads hardware that can load samples without the need of computer?

Once again thanks very much and I have to say that xpresspad is a dream come true for me. I’ve been waiting and checking your site for a year for Mac version. I also notice that there is “Magic tone network” section coming up. Don’t know what it is yet but looks like another great thing!

It’s great to read that you like finger drumming with the XpressPads technique so much!

I can imagine using a foot switch to change presets is possible via the midi standard, but I have never done that. So, unfortunately I cannot give you a recommendation how you could do this easily.

Another option I thought of after you mentioned that you don’t mind buying another pad controller is to buy one that lets you change preset banks by just pressing a dedicated button per bank. The MPD232 has 4 pad bank buttons per preset, but it isn’t cheap. The MPD218 is inexpensive, has great pads, and lets you toggle through 3 different preset banks with one button.

I didn’t play finger drumming with mobile apps so far, but I heared about iMPC and iMaschine. However, I am not so convinced that the performance limitations that mobile devices have will yield good or realistic drum sound results.

I hope you’ll enjoy Magic Tone Network which is coming soon. I personally have lots of ways I can use it in my music productions.
